"Counselling can help you to accept the things that you cannot change, and
help you to bring about the changes that are possible."
Counselling is a form of talking therapy and can offer so many benefits. Counselling provides you with a safe, non-judgemental space to discuss your worries with a trained therapist to work with you to find ways to deal with emotional issues.
There are many reasons that people choose to go to counselling and it does not need to be that they have experienced a life changing event. Having the opportunity to express your feelings without judgement, can allow you to become more comfortable with your emotions.
Counselling can help you to make sense of difficult feelings/emotions and understand yourself better, it can help you resolve complicated issues and find ways to manage them. Counselling can also help you recognise unhelpful patterns and behaviours and find ways to change them.
You should feel comfortable and safe with your counsellor and they should listen without judgement, the therapeutic relationship between yourself and your counsellor is really important to your counselling journey.
Speaking to a trained professional, and not your friends and family, can make a difference. Friends don’t always understand or will try to give advice, a counsellor can offer understanding and direction, while you speak in a safe, confidential space.
