I thought that I would make my first 'blog' an introduction into me and how I came to be a Counsellor and start Rebalance Counselling and Therapy.
Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked in Human Resources for over 15 years, I started in the private sector as an HR Assistant and progressed to the role of People Business Partner in a not-for-profit organisation. During my career, I have worked in the private and public sector, for UK and Global companies which has given me an understanding of business but also, how our working life, our working environment and the decisions made in our employment can have a significant impact on our mental health.
One of the main aspects of my HR roles that I have enjoyed is being able to support people when they need it, I have been able to see how talking and sharing concerns can have such a huge benefit for people and how much receiving professional and impartial support, such as counselling can help. This was one of the main reasons that I decided to train as a Counsellor.
In 2020, when COVID came and changed so many things for so many people, support such as counselling seemed to be so much more important and when in the Summer of 2020, I was informed that I would be made redundant from my full-time role, it seemed like the right time to take the next step, so I applied to study my Diploma in Counselling with Glyndwr with a focus on the Person-Centred approach.
As part of my course, I have been able to work with clients directly which reinforced to me that I had made the right decision in moving to the counselling field. Whilst counselling can be challenging at times, I have been able to see first-hand how beneficial counselling can be and how much that support can help people.
Now that I have completed my core training qualification, I am exploring what other training I want to incorporate into my practise and have already completed training in ‘Walk and Talk’ therapy and ‘Online and Telephone’ counselling and I am currently working towards completing a Certificate in Trauma Informed Practice.
I also decided to take the step and start my own practice, Rebalance Counselling and Therapy, to allow me to work with clients directly to help them find their balance.
