Bereavement and Loss
Bereavement and grief is a natural response to any form of loss.
It is normal to feel angry, sad or lonely when you have experienced a significant loss, this can be through the death of a loved one, redundancy or the end of a significant relationship.
Everyone experiences loss in different ways. It's important to remember that there is no set time limit for grieving.
However, grief can sometimes be overwhelming and you may find it beneficial to talk about your loss in counselling. This can help you to explore and understand your thoughts and feelings.
Stress and Anxiety
Some stress can be positive and help you to achieve goals and feel more energised, however, stress can become a problem if it becomes intense or overwhelming, stress can affect physical and mental health.
Anxiety is a natural human response, most people can feel anxious at times when they are worried, tense, or afraid about things that are about to happen, or that may happen in the future.
Counselling can help you find a way to manage stress and anxiety and support you to become ore aware of your thoughts and feelings and develop coping strategies.
Depression and Low Mood
Depression can last a long time and can affect your everyday life, it can affect your mood, behaviour and thoughts. It can make everything seem harder.
Whilst we may all have times of low mood or periods of feeling sad, these feelings usually pass, however, if these feelings are beginning to interfere or impact your everyday life, it may be beneficial for you to explore these thoughts and feelings in counselling.
Redundancy and Employment Issues
Work plays a large part in our lives, it can give you a sense of purpose, structure and satisfaction, however, it can also cause stress, frustration, poor health and self-esteem issues and issues experienced in the workplace can have a huge impact on our emotional wellbeing.
If you are facing redundancy or have been made redundant, this can feel like an overwhelming and daunting experience. It can lead to feelings of loss and confusion, as well as practical concerns.
Counselling can provide you with the opportunity to work through issues of self-esteem and confidence, and explore the next steps, supporting you to decide how you want to move forward.
Relationship and Family Concerns
Relationships with family and friends are a key part of our lives, but they are not always easy and sometimes these relationships can break down for a number of reasons.
Our family and friends are usually our first point of call when we need support, and when we experience problems in our relationships, it can be difficult to know where to turn. The loss of this connection can be difficult, leaving you feeling lonely, disappointed, or even confused as to what may have gone wrong.
Trauma and Abuse
Experiencing abuse or having a traumatic experience can have a profound impact on our psychological and emotional well-being and can lead you to feel unsafe or on high alert.
Abuse can physical, emotional, sexual or verbal. It could be a one-off event or something that that takes place over long periods of time. There are many different causes of trauma and it is not the circumstance or event in itself, but your emotional experience of the event.
Trauma affects people in different ways and, for some, the symptoms take weeks, months or even years to surface.
Perinatal Mental Health
Perinatal mental health can impact a mother during pregnancy and the first year after the birth. This can impact the relationship between the mother and both their child and family and have a lasting effect.
It can be difficult for new parents to reach out for support and admit that they are finding what should be an exciting time difficult.
I aim to provide you with the space to raise your concerns, thoughts and feelings in a safe space and to support you.
